I wanted to offer up a nugget of activism for vegan folks and just a fun activity for everyone else. I visited a friend earlier this year and while on the trip my friend’s daughter asked her mom to stop at McDonald’s to bring her home chicken nuggets.

That night when I was trying to sleep, I thought about a FUN way to get my friend’s daughter to try vegan chicken nuggets and came up with a food taste test called ‘Will the real chick’un nugget please stand up?’

Spoiler alert, no real chickens were used in the taste test. 🙂

Anyways, this came up today because my friend’s daughter asked if I was coming to town this weekend. When she was told no she tossed her hands in the air and said ‘well that’s just great, this weekend is going to suck!’ I so LOVE that my small activism was memorable and that the vegan friend (yes that’s me) is viewed as the fun one.

We played the Slim Shady song to set the tone and danced in the kitchen while two different batches of vegan chick’un nuggets cooked in the air fryer. We had Yves and Gardein brands with vegan ranch to serve. I would have bought more nuggets if there were any other options in the local grocery store, but I was thankful I at least found two kinds.

The whole family got involved in this taste test! We took turns offering our opinions on the taste, texture and appearance of the nuggets and then voted on the winner. It was unanimous. Yves won by a long shot – both in taste and because it was the perceived real nugget. When I revealed that both nugget brands were vegan, my friend’s daughter said, ‘mom can we get these nuggets from now on?’ OH MY HEART. BLESS HER!!
